I was born and bred in Gateshead not that many years ago…. ok maybe it was! My childhood wish was to become a Barrister or a DJ, such a vast contrast in careers however, when I eventually ‘grew’ up I chose a career in Management. Although during my teenage years I did realise my dream of becoming a DJ, working throughout the North East. During this period an opportunity came my way to be a DJ on cruise ships, and of course I jumped at it! This was great fun but after a while the sea view took its toll and dry land beckoned. Whilst ashore in Denmark I was approached by a club owner who had watched me perform on board, he was suitably impressed to offer me work as a DJ in his club and throughout Denmark. I did miss the UK lifestyle so I moved back during the mid-80’s and decided to live in North London. I was fortunate to work in Mayfair and due to the close proximity of the ‘Palace’, after work I often had a leisurely stroll down, never saw you know who as I was only passing of course! Living in central London was undoubtedly an experience I will never forget however, after a while you take stock of your lifestyle and ask the question, do you really want to take up to 2 hours to drive 8 miles to reach your destination? Answer, no! I returned to the North East and lived in Beamish where my son James was born. After several years I was lured back to London, clearly I had forgotten about the travel nightmares which was one of the reasons I left. During 2004 a situation arose for me to return back to the North East. The North East is a great place to live; only problem is many people often question me if I’m a true Northerner because of my accent and whilst I lived in London no one believed me either. One wish….more sunshine, less rain and was older than my 3 wonderful sisters, is this 3 wishes?
