Jamie Wilkinson
Hi and welcome to Jamie’s bio.
After setting up Newcastle’s first student radio station in 1998, Jamie began his professional radio career at Galaxy Radio. There he produced the breakfast show, wrote adverts and also had his first taste of being in front of the microphone. A successful run of voice over work led to offers of on air radio presentation on various stations across the UK.
Jamie’s also worked as a producer working on documentaries for the national BBC networks as well as commercial broadcasters like Real Radio and Smooth Radio. He’s spent time in some of Britain’s best known radio stations – from Radio 1 to BBC 6 Music and has worked alongside some of the nation’s favourite presenters. He was Peter White’s producer the year he won best speech presenter at the Sony Radio Awards, and was also behind the successful Gillard-Award winning programme “Paul and Ian”.
As a presenter himself he’s interviewed everyone from sitting prime ministers to Ricky Gervais and along the way has knocked Boy George to the floor and spilt boiling water over the playing hand of a former Sex Pistol! He was briefly the co-holder of the World Record for the largest ever tea bag when he came up with the idea as a promotion for a local tea maker!
These days he can be heard on some of the BBC’s biggest and most listened to local radio stations like BBC Newcastle, and he also runs a media production company called Bespoke Radio Ltd making personalised audio gifts.
Jamie lives in Gateshead, plays Real Tennis (as opposed to lawn tennis) and is a keen amateur chef.
